Challenge

Traditional tools often lack the flexibility and interactivity needed to keep pace with the rapid speed of modern team work. As a result, teams struggle to capture and organize ideas effectively, leading to disjointed discussions and untapped creative potential. Additionally, creating a tool that can flexibly handle calculations to save time exporting data to Excel presents both a significant challenge and a great opportunity.

Research & Competitor

Existing tools like MindMaster and Miro have limitations in providing truly dynamic and data-driven mind mapping experiences. Users often feel restricted in expressing their ideas.

Based on customer feedback, requirements, and insights, the team discussed and confirmed the key features for the first MVP release.

The MVP satisfies two main criteria: the ability to quickly create mind maps with a familiar UX, and the capability to perform basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) without needing to import data into Excel.

Problem Statement: Teams are hindered by outdated brainstorming tools that fail to support seamless idea generation, collaboration, and organization. This often results in disjointed workflows, reduced creative output, and a lack of synergy during brainstorming sessions.

Business Requirements: This tool allows users to generate ideas flexibly, track in real-time, present easily, and receive direct feedback with a familiar UX—building on popular tools—and, importantly, it must be able to perform calculations.

Develop

Wireframe & Prototyping: For this project, the client did not request wireframes but primarily wanted the designer to quickly create a first test version for a demo with their own clients. Therefore, the team agreed to skip wireframes and focus on quickly developing a Style Guide using the branding provided by the client. The only requirement is to design with a clean aesthetic and use a lot of white space.

Build Style Guide: We created a unified visual language and mascot collection, incorporating color schemes, typography, and iconography, to ensure consistency across the app and for future updates.

User flow: Basically, the team has agreed on the user flow, so I’m creating it quickly to give everyone an overview.

Collaboration: This project involves close oversight from the client due to the complexity of logic and display requirements, as the primary language is Japanese. Therefore, we need extensive consultation and insights from the client. The Project Manager and Developers are also heavily involved in the advisory process to ensure the UI is displayed most effectively.

Reflection

Working on a productivity project for the first time was a significant challenge. It required understanding user behavior, optimizing the experience, and aligning with common practices of established tools in the market.

The product currently meets only the basic requirements for an MVP. I have noted important considerations for creating reusable components and optimizing display across larger screens.
